Background of the Study
Oyun Local Government Area (LGA), located in Kwara State, is responsible for several administrative functions, including managing public sector projects. Overheads, such as administrative costs, utility bills, and operational expenses, often consume a significant portion of the LGA’s budget. The application of cost accounting techniques, such as cost allocation, cost control, and budgeting, can significantly reduce these overheads by ensuring more efficient resource use. This study investigates how cost accounting practices are applied in Oyun LGA to minimize overheads and enhance the efficiency of local government operations.
Statement of the Problem
Oyun LGA faces high overhead costs due to inefficient cost management and poor tracking of expenditures. This leads to wasteful spending, reducing the funds available for essential services.
